Both treatments open up the eye. They work in different ways, and that difference decides which one suits your lashes, your routine and your budget.
What a lash lift does
A lash lift works with the lashes you already have. A lifting solution softens the natural bond in each lash so it can be shaped upward from the base, then a setting step holds that curl in place. A tint usually follows, so the lashes read darker and longer without mascara.
Nothing is glued on, so there is nothing to grow out, fall off or refill. The curl lasts until those lashes shed naturally, which is typically four to six weeks. Read more in what is a Korean lash lift.
What lash extensions do
Extensions are individual synthetic fibres bonded to your natural lashes, one at a time or in small fans. They can add real length and volume, well beyond what your own lashes can give you.
The trade-off is upkeep. As your natural lashes shed, the extensions go with them, so most people book a fill every two to three weeks to keep the set looking full. They also need gentler handling: oil-free products, no rubbing, careful cleansing.
Side by side
- Look: a lift gives a natural, wide-awake curl. Extensions give more length and drama.
- Upkeep: a lift needs nothing for four to six weeks. Extensions need fills every few weeks.
- Your own lashes: a lift only reshapes what is there. Extensions add weight, which some lashes carry better than others.
- Mornings: both mean less mascara. Many lift clients stop wearing it altogether.
- Cost over time: one lift covers four to six weeks. Extensions need the full set plus regular fills.
Who suits a lift
If your natural lashes have reasonable length but grow straight or point down, a lift makes the biggest visible difference. It also suits anyone who wants a polished look without a maintenance calendar, and anyone who swims, trains hard or does not want to baby their lashes.
Who suits extensions
If your lashes are very short or sparse and you want noticeable length or volume, extensions can do what a lift cannot. That is a legitimate choice. It just comes with the upkeep.
Where Bliss Beauty stands
We are phasing out new extension sets to focus on lifts and lamination, because for most of the clients we see, a well-mapped lift gives the look they wanted with far less maintenance. Existing extension clients can still book fills by getting in touch.
Not sure which you need? Book a Korean lash lift and we will look at your natural lashes together during the consultation. If a lift is not right for you, we will say so.
Questions we’re often asked
Can I get a lash lift if I have extensions now?
Not straight away. The extensions need to be removed and your natural lashes given time to recover first, because a lift works on your own lashes only.
Does a lash lift damage your natural lashes?
A lift done with a gentle formula and correct timing reshapes the lash. Damage comes from over-processing, which is why timing matters. Every lash lift we do uses a thioglycolate-free formula.
Which lasts longer, a lash lift or extensions?
A lift lasts about four to six weeks with no fills. Extensions last as long as you keep up fills, usually every two to three weeks.
