Both promise fuller brows, but they are different treatments with very different commitments.
What brow lamination is
It relaxes and reshapes the brow hairs you already have, sets them in a fuller, lifted shape, and can finish with a tint. It lasts several weeks and grows out naturally. Read the full explanation in brow lamination explained.
What microblading is
It uses a fine blade to deposit pigment into the upper layer of the skin in hair-like strokes. It is a form of cosmetic tattooing, typically lasts one to three years, fades gradually, and usually needs a touch-up session.
Side by side
- What changes: lamination changes your hair's direction; microblading adds pigment to your skin.
- Needles or blades: none for lamination; yes for microblading.
- How long it lasts: several weeks for lamination; a year or more for microblading.
- Healing time: lamination has none, just 24 hours of keeping it dry; microblading has a healing period of a few weeks.
- If you change your mind: lamination grows out on its own; microblading has to fade or be removed.
Which suits you
Lamination is usually the better starting point if you have brow hair to work with but it is unruly, flat, gappy in places or grows downward. It is low-commitment and easy to try.
Microblading is worth considering if there are areas where no hair grows at all, because lamination can only brush existing hairs across a gap, not create new ones.
Can you have both?
Some people do. If you already have microblading, lamination can still shape the natural hairs over the top, but let us know at your consultation.
A note from the studio
We do not offer microblading. We specialize in lamination because it gives most clients the full, groomed brow they are after, without anything semi-permanent in the skin. If lamination is not the right answer for your brows, we will tell you.
See brow lamination on our services page.
